Our F550 trucks handle orders up to 12 yards. Fully loaded they weigh under 20,000 pounds, well within what residential concrete and asphalt is built to handle. We've never damaged a customer's driveway.
For orders over 12 yards, we will bring one of our larger trucks that carries up to 20+ yards in a single load. Still residential-access sized with proper weight distribution. If your order needs a second trip regardless of truck size, we make it at no extra charge.
If you have a truck or trailer, picking up works for smaller orders. Here's a practical breakdown by order size to help you decide.
| Order Size | Recommendation | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1-2 yards | Pickup can work | One trip in a full-size pickup truck. Your truck bed holds about 2 to 2.5 yards loaded level with the rails. Check your payload rating first since mulch weighs 600 to 800 lbs per yard. |
| 3 yards | Pickup with trailer | A full-size truck bed plus a small equipment trailer can handle this in one trip. One customer loaded 2 yards in his 5.5-foot truck bed and 3 yards in a 10-foot lawn mower trailer with 1 to 2 foot sides and a tarp over the top. That gave him 5 yards total in a single trip. Just check your trailer's weight rating (GVWR) before loading. |
| 4 yards | Delivery | Two pickup trips minimum without a trailer. At 2,400 to 3,200 lbs total, the delivery fee pays for itself in time and wear on your vehicle. |
| 5-6 yards | Delivery | Three or more trips hauling yourself. Gas, drive time, and truck bed cleanup stack up fast. |
| 7+ yards | Delivery | Self-haul without a commercial dump trailer is impractical for most homeowners. |
Bulk mulch weighs 600 to 800 pounds per cubic yard depending on moisture and wood type. A full-size pickup (F-150, Silverado, Ram 1500) holds roughly 2 to 2.5 yards level with the bedrails. Mid-size trucks (Tacoma, Colorado, Ranger) hold about 1.5 to 2 yards. For more detail on mulch weights by type, see our mulch weight guide.
Ordering too little means a second delivery. Ordering too much is money left in your driveway.
